Deerfield Road Construction Update: Sept. 2, 2016
Work continues on the Deerfield Road Reconstruction Project with pavement continuing to be installed. Below is an update on work starting on the west end of the project and moving east.
Deerfield Road Bridge
Today, the bridge was opened to traffic following completion of required repairs. While the detour was in place, crews also performed crack sealing and updated pavement markings.
The eastbound traffic detour will be shortened and will now start at Chestnut and then utilize Osterman and Waukegan. The westbound detour will remain the same. A map of the new eastbound detour and existing westbound detour is shown below.
Deerfield Road Between Metra Underpass and Waukegan Road
Yesterday, crews paved one lane from the underpass to Waukegan Road. Next week, a second lane will be paved. Crews are currently completing the underground wiring for the new traffic signals. Traffic signal installation work will continue next week. Curbs have been installed on both sides in this area.
This portion of the project is expected to be complete in mid-September. A conflict with an underground gas main delayed paving operations by one week.
Deerfield Road East of Waukegan Road
Yesterday, the contractor paved the inside lane east of Waukegan to Rosemary Terrace. This reduced traffic to one lane during the day and required a detour. Moving forward, the contractor will not require as many lane reductions as they can stage more of their equipment on the pavement that has already been installed. Next week, paving will continue from Rosemary Terrace to Kipling Place.
