Next Week: Night Work Begins in Deerfield, Ramp Closures in Highland Park

Deerfield Road Construction Update: Sept. 9, 2016

Work continues on the Deerfield Road Reconstruction Project. Pavement operations are expected every day next week, weather permitting. Night operations will start this Monday. Below is an update on work starting on the west end of the project and moving east.

Deerfield Road Between Metra Underpass and Waukegan Road:

Yesterday, crews paved a second section from the underpass to Waukegan Road. Crews are currently completing the underground wiring for the new traffic signals. Traffic signal installation work will continue next week. Curbs have been installed on both sides in this area. Multiple crews will be in this area through the week to complete operations.

This portion of the project is expected to be completed the following week. A conflict with an underground gas main delayed paving operations.

Deerfield Road East of Waukegan Road:

Yesterday, the contractor paved the inside lane from Rosemary Terrace to Kipling Place. This reduced traffic to one lane during the day and required a detour. On Thursday, the contractor will be paving the last section of mainline from Kipling Place to Highland Park. Similar to before, this paving operation will require a detour of the westbound traffic as the contractor will need to utilize part of the existing roadway to perform this work. The detour route will follow Heather Road to Margate Terrace and down Kenton Road. Please follow the signs.

Night Operations: (Detour Map Provided Below)

Starting this Monday, the contractor will have two crews onsite overnight performing storm sewer and sanitary sewer work in the north lanes where the existing travels lanes are located. This work is expected make up for lost time and will help identify any underground utility conflicts sooner, providing more time for relocations to be completed before they impact progress.

This work will require nightly detours of both the eastbound and westbound traffic. Detour signage will be installed on a nightly basis for motorists to follow. The contractor will begin this work on Monday at 8 p.m. and will continue for approximately three weeks. All work and detours will be completed each morning by 5 a.m.

In anticipation of the night work, the contractor will be saw cutting the existing roadway pavement tomorrow during the day. This will result in one-way traffic. The contractor will have flaggers on both sides of the work and will flag traffic around accordingly.
