Work continues on the Deerfield Road Reconstruction Project. Night Operations started last week to make up for lost time. The downtown closure should be re-opened by Friday, September 23.
Deerfield Road Between Metra Underpass and Waukegan Road
This week, the contractor paved the outside lanes and the approaches at the lighted intersections. Traffic lights have been installed. Next week, the contractor will finish paving and install cross walks before opening the closure by the end of the week. The contractor will also begin reinstalling the brick sidewalks for pedestrian access.
Deerfield Road East of Waukegan Road
Yesterday, the contractor paved the inside lane from Kipling Place east to the bridge. This reduced traffic to one lane during the day. Once this pavement has gained the required strength, the contractor will begin paving the gaps at the remaining intersections. At the end of next week, the contractor intends to begin placing the new asphalt roadway in Highland Park.
The current ramp closures over Route 41 will remain in place through the end of next week.
The contractor will continue to have two crews working overnight performing storm sewer and sanitary sewer work on the north lanes. This work is allowing the project to make up lost time and will help identify any underground utility conflicts sooner, providing more time for relocations to be completed before they impact progress.
This work requires nightly detours of both the eastbound and westbound traffic. Detour signage will be installed on a nightly basis for motorists to follow. The contractor began working at night this week and will continue for approximately three weeks. All work and detours will be completed each morning by 5 a.m.
