Construction Update: Sept. 30, 2016

Work continues on the Deerfield Road Reconstruction Project. Night operations will continue next week to make up for lost time. The contractor plans to move traffic to the newly paved southern lanes the week of October 10.

Deerfield Road Between Metra Underpass and Waukegan Road
This section of the project was opened Saturday morning. Motorists are asked to follow the directional signs when traveling east on Deerfield Road at Waukegan Road. The far-right lane of traffic is for making right turns onto Waukegan only. The contractor is completing work on the traffic signals and will continue reinstalling the brick sidewalks for pedestrian access.

Deerfield Road East of Waukegan Road
This week, the contractor completed paving of the asphalt subbase in Highland Park. The northbound right turn lane on Waukegan Road at Deerfield Road has been closed to allow the contractor to finish excavation at the intersection. They plan to pour concrete in this area either Saturday or Monday, depending on the weather. Next week the contractor plans to finish the sidewalk on the south, driveway aprons and any remaining concrete work. The contractor will switch traffic to the newly paved southern lanes during the week of October 10. They plan to start excavation work in the northern lanes immediately following the switch over and anticipate pouring concrete in mid-November.

Currently, there are no ramp closures in place at Route 41.

Night Operations
The contractor will continue to have two crews working overnight performing storm sewer and sanitary sewer work in the north lanes. This work is allowing the project to make up lost time and help identify any underground utility conflicts sooner, providing more time for relocations to be completed before they impact progress. This work requires nightly detours of both the eastbound and westbound traffic. Detour signage will be installed on a nightly basis for motorists to follow. All work and detours will be completed each morning by 5 a.m.
